White House: Gaza Pullout to Bolster U.S.-Israel Ties

(Reuters) The White House on Thursday praised Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip as a bold move that will strengthen ties between Israel and the U.S. President Bush sympathizes with Israeli settlers who are being forced to evacuate their homes, said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino. She said Israeli Prime Minister Sharon was "very courageous" to carry out the withdrawal. "We agree that the disengagement will make Israel stronger," Perino said. "We agree with Prime Minister Sharon on that and the president has also said that this will bring our two countries closer together."
