Kibbutz Movement is Making a Comeback

(Jerusalem Post) Avi Krawitz - For the first time since 1985, the kibbutz population grew in 2003 and Kibbutz Movement spokesman Aviv Leshem said the figures for 2004 show that the trend continued. Leshem explained that major changes had taken place to bring in a more capitalistic approach. "Heavy debt forced 180 kibbutzim to radically change their way of life and methods of doing business," he said. "Members now have more freedom to work outside and greater independence with their own money."
