(Reuters) The U.S. balked on Wednesday at a proposal by Russian President Putin for a peace conference this fall to try to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying the timing was not right. "We believe there will be an appropriate time for an international conference, but we are not at that stage now and I don't expect that we will be there by the fall," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.
