Syria's Bashar al-Assad Faces Most Serious Unrest of His Tenure

(Washington Post) Leila Fadel - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was facing the most serious unrest of his 11-year tenure Thursday as anti-government protests in the southern city of Daraa threatened to escalate after a deadly crackdown. Syria expert Joshua Landis, director of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma, said the Syrians "are hesitating, but it seems like there is a big hole in the dike here, and the fear factor is collapsing."
