(Press Trust of India) India's Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma Wednesday visited the memorial of Indian soldiers who fell in the liberation of Haifa during World War I, and paid tribute by laying a wreath. Nearly 900 Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives in this region during World War I and were cremated or buried in cemeteries across Israel. Two brave Indian Cavalry Regiments helped liberate the city in 1918 following a dashing cavalry action by the 15th Imperial Service Cavalry Brigade, part of the Allied Forces sweeping northward through Palestine in what is seen as the last great cavalry campaign in history.
