(Telegraph-UK) Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said further progress was needed before direct peace talks with Israel could be resumed, after President Obama expressed hope that direct talks would start before the end of September. A spokesman for Abbas said: "President Abbas...insists on the necessity of progress in indirect negotiations on core issues (borders, security) before going to direct negotiations."
