(Reuters-France 24) At a press conference with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on Monday, French President Nicolas Sarkozy backed a "viable" Palestinian state, but stopped short of endorsing Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner's support for early recognition of a Palestinian state. Sarkozy said that Kouchner was thinking of possible ways to bring momentum to the peace process but that France's goal remained a functioning Palestinian state in clearly set borders.
