After Two Weeks, Israeli Team Winds Down Haiti Mission

(Ha'aretz) Amos Harel - The Israel Defense Forces team in Haiti will return home on Thursday. The IDF Home Front Command and the Medical Corps are leaving behind a large part of the equipment brought there as a goodwill gesture to the people of Haiti. "If you prepare properly for a missile attack on the home front, then you have 95% of the tools at your disposal for dealing with an earthquake," said one Home Front Command officer. Israel's main accomplishment was the quick deployment of a field hospital in Haiti. "For five critical days, it was the best hospital in Port-au-Prince," said a senior officer. "We provided timely medical care to about 1,000 people, we conducted 300 operations and delivered 16 babies."
