UN Security Council Extends Lebanon Peacekeeping Mandate

[Reuters] Patrick Worsnip - The Security Council extended on Thursday the mandate of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon but sidestepped the issue of whether they could do more to stop Hizbullah building up an armed presence in the south. Israel has criticized UNIFIL for not stopping weapons flowing to Hizbullah, who bombarded northern Israel with rockets in 2006. The UN says that is the primary responsibility of the Lebanese authorities.
