Syria's New Leader Was Imprisoned by the U.S. in Iraq for Five Years
(Foundation for Defense of Democracies) Ahmad Sharawi - Sabereen News - affiliated with Iran-backed militias in Iraq - released documents outlining the detention of Syrian interim President Ahmad al Sharaa, who was apprehended by U.S. forces in Iraq on May 14, 2005. He remained in the U.S.-run Bucca Prison until April 6, 2010, when he was handed over to Iraqi authorities and ultimately released on March 13, 2011.
