Guatemala's New Hebrew-Speaking President
(JTA) Jacob Kessler - Guatemala's new president, elected on Sunday, is Bernardo Arevalo, son of former president Juan Jose Arevalo. When his father served as Guatemala's ambassador to Israel, Bernardo studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and received his BA there. Bernardo also worked at the Guatemalan embassy in Israel from 1984 to 1986. He said, "Israel is a country for which I have great affection. I lived 10 years of my life in Israel. They were very important years."
