Islamists Sidelined in New Egypt Cabinet

(Telegraph-UK) Adrian Blomfield - Egypt's Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi, has been forced to accept a cabinet dominated by army-backed figures in a sign that the military's political clout remains largely unbridled. Hisham Qandil, Morsi's prime minister-designate, announced that just three of the 35 ministerial positions in his government would be members of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, who heads the military body that managed Egypt's transition, remains defense minister. The foreign and finance portfolios were given to army-backed civilians who served in the military-appointed interim cabinet.
