Ya'alon: Ankara Making Israel-Turkey Reconciliation Impossible

(Ha'aretz) Barak Ravid - Vice Prime Minister Moshe Ya'alon said Thursday that he does not see a possibility for reconciliation between Israel and Turkey in light of Ankara's insistence that Israel apologize over last year's Gaza flotilla incident. "The stubbornness of the Turks cannot lead to reconciliation and I do not see any possibility to bridge the gap between the two sides," Ya'alon told foreign journalists. Ya'alon recently conducted three rounds of talks with Turkish representatives in Geneva and New York. "We were ready from the beginning to reach a deal with the Turks and I told them that we are prepared to compensate those killed in the IDF raid...but we do not intend on apologizing, because that would mean taking responsibility for what has occurred. The IDF's Mavi Marmara operation was an act of self-defense."
