IDF Chief: We Can't Let Gaza Become an Iranian Port
(AP-Ha'aretz) Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi said Tuesday, "We cannot allow Gaza to become an Iranian port." "This is no longer an issue facing the Israeli towns around Gaza. They could be bringing missiles capable of reaching other towns," he said. In regard to last month's raid on the Turkish aid ship Mavi Marmara, Ashkenazi said that "following initial investigations, the fighters acted superbly under the circumstances. I salute them....It was an unusual situation and they reacted the way they should."
