(StrategyPage) As Iran continues to use Syria as a staging area for a direct attack on Israel, Iran's "allies" Russia, Turkey and Assad are now all working against it. Popular opinion in Iraq and Lebanon is now actively hostile towards Iran. Back home most Iranians see the cost of the Syrian War pushing more Iranians into poverty. Yet the religious dictatorship that has ruled Iran since the 1980s considers the destruction of Israel as worth any cost. The Iranian leadership believe they are on a mission from God.
