U.S. Treasury Undersecretary: Sanctions to Hit Iran Hard

(Globes) Tal Schneider - "Because of our sanctions, oil purchases by foreign authorities from Iran will be going significantly down," U.S. Undersecretary of the Treasury Sigal Mandelker told Globes. She is visiting Israel as part of a delegation headed by U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin. Mandelker is leading the campaign to apply financial sanctions against Iran and halt financing for terrorism. At the agency she heads, the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, 700 professional federal employees track capital or tangible assets to stop the use by terrorist organizations of the return on these assets and the transfer of funds through the international financial system. She says that the additional sanctions against Iran that become effective on Nov. 4 are designed to be much more severe and include oil.
