Syrian and Russian Planes Pound Last Rebel Stronghold in Syria

(Reuters) Angus McDowall and Tulay Karadeniz - Russian and Syrian jets on Tuesday bombarded countryside around Jisr al-Shughour on the western edge of the rebel enclave of Idlib, the last major rebel stronghold, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and a rebel source reported. Idlib's dominant rebel faction is Tahrir al-Sham, an alliance spearheaded by al-Qaeda's former official affiliate in Syria, the Nusra Front. UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura said the Nusra Front and al-Qaeda had an estimated 10,000 fighters in Idlib.
