Palestinian Poll: 3/4 Support Abbas' Decision to Suspend Security Coordination with Israel

(Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research) Dr. Khalil Shikaki - According to a poll conducted on Sep. 14-16 and published Tuesday by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, 60% of the Palestinian public in the West Bank and 80% in Gaza want President Abbas to resign. If new legislative elections were held, 29% say they would vote for Hamas and 36% for Fatah. Half of the public (50%) view the Palestinian Authority as a burden. Perception of corruption in PA institutions stands at 77%. 73% support Abbas' decision to suspend security coordination with Israel, but 66% believe that the PA and its security services did not implement that decision. If negotiations with Israel are resumed under U.S. sponsorship, 83% think the Trump Administration will be biased in favor of Israel; 10% think it will be an honest broker and 2% think it will be biased in favor of the Palestinian side. 70% think the chances for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel in the next five years are slim to non-existent.
