(Guardian) Israel claimed early today that it had achieved victory in the air by destroying 374 Arab aircraft. It also claimed that Israeli ground forces had captured the towns of Rafah astride the main road from the Gaza strip to the Suez canal and El Arish, farther west. A tank battle involving more armor than was used at Alamein was reported to be in progress between Israel and Egypt in the Sinai desert.
