U.S. Nears Deal on Arms Coveted by Saudis

The White House is trying to encourage a longtime Middle Eastern ally to take the lead on regional security but without alienating Israel, another critical friend in the region. A senior U.S. official said "every system that we're talking about" with the Saudis maintains Israel's qualitative military edge over its neighbors.
