Hamas: Fooling Many of the People, Much of the Time

(Washington Times) Clifford D. May - "Hamas Drops Call for Israel's Destruction," headlined the Wall Street Journal last week. The New York Times told its readers: "Hamas Moderates Talk on Israel." And the UK's Guardian concluded that Hamas had produced a document likely to "ease peace process." All this is big news - or would be if it were true. But it's not. Not even close. In its new "Document of General Principles and Policies," Hamas says it is willing to accept a provisional Palestinian state within the 1967 lines. It doesn't say it's willing to accept Israel beyond those lines. The new Hamas document continues to rule out peaceful coexistence with the "enemy" and envisions "the full and complete liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea" - in other words, every inch of Israel.
