As Syria Talks Stall, a Hunt for Alternatives

(Wall Street Journal) Sam Dagher - Talks aimed at ending the five-year war in Syria ground to a halt with the government and opposition divided over fundamental issues, including whether President Bashar al-Assad's political fate even belongs on the agenda. "Geneva is a process without content," a senior Western diplomat said. The two-week session that ended Wednesday was the third round of talks since January. The Syrian regime and various opposition delegations are still not talking face-to-face, but rather using the UN as a go-between in proximity talks.
