Libya Bars Israel from World Chess Championships

(AP/Ha'aretz) - Israeli chess officials demanded Thursday that the World Chess Federation move this summer's world chess championships, after host Libya said it would bar Israeli players. "We did not and will not invite the Zionist enemy to this championship," Mohammed Qaddafi, son of Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, said Wednesday. "We demand that it be held in a country that will accept every nation without discrimination," said Israeli Chess Association spokesman Yerach Tal. Tal noted that in Europe, Israel is ranked second in chess after Russia.
